Clean Up Accidents Correctly To Avoid Frustration

Sometimes, after attempted at-home spot removal, permanent damage can be caused to carpet, rugs or furniture.

Permanent damage can be caused by the following:

Using Inappropriate Solutions. If a cleaning solution with harsh chemicals, bleach, optical brighteners or a high PH is used, the color of the carpet, rug or furniture may be irreversibly altered. Carpet dye can even be removed. This leaves a permanent, white, bleached out spot on your carpet, rug or furniture. Some products may set the stain, making it impossible to remove in the future.
Residue. If a cleaning solution is over-applied or not completely rinsed out, this can leave a residue in the carpet, rug or furniture that will attract dirt and make the spot worse than before.
Overwetting. In your efforts to remove a spot, you may overwet the carpet or dry it too slowly, which causes browning or wicking.
Improper Procedures. Pile or yarn distortion can result by harsh scrubbing or rubbing of the carpet.
